We are excited to announce SCVEA’s February program: HR’s Top Ten Mistakes to Avoid. The seminar is on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 and will be presented by Mary Ellen Leary, President of The Mel Group, LLC.  Mary Ellen is well known around the Twin Cities area for her leadership, extensive Human Resources knowledge, and organizational development experience.

Mary Ellen Leary is President of The MEL Group, LLC

Mary Ellen is well known in the Twin Cities through her extensive leadership activities and her 30+ years of broad human resources and organization development experience. She led the HR function for five firms in the insurance, financial services and high tech sectors. She was also Managing Principal for the Minneapolis Office of an International Human Resources Consulting firm. Mary Ellen’s expertise includes organizational design and change management, strategic human resource planning, systems design and implementation, facilitation, talent management, strategic compensation, executive coaching and development, mergers and acquisitions due diligence and integration, and large project management. Her clients span the e-business, high-tech, manufacturing, service, distribution, real estate, construction, aviation, professional services and nonprofit sectors. Some representative engagements include organization assessments for several privately held firms, executive management team interventions for two services companies, “reasonable compensation” studies for several privately-held companies and the redesign of the HR function for a large healthcare provider, a property developer and a small finishing manufacturer.

Mary Ellen is past President of the Twin Cities Human Resources Association (TCHRA) and past International and Minnesota State Director for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She received both the Excellence Award for Human Resources from the HR Professionals of Minnesota, and the Outstanding Contribution to the Profession Award from TCHRA. She was also selected by TCHRA to receive their Award of Excellence. She is a former member of the board of directors for MidAmerica Mutual Life Insurance Company, past President of the Board for the Crisis Connection, and past board member for the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, and Special Olympics of Minnesota. Mary Ellen is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors for ProAct, and a member of the board of directors for DARTS. Other memberships include the Council of Independent Managers and Professional Business Consortium. She is also a member of the Eagan Women’s Chorus.

Mary Ellen earned her MBA in General Management from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Catherine University, also in St. Paul. Mary Ellen received the SPHR designation (Senior Professional in Human Resources) granted by the Human Resources Certification Institute.

Mary Ellen is a frequent guest lecturer for a wide variety of professional associations and special interest groups.
